Elastoplasticity Mediates Dynamical Heterogeneity Below the Mode Coupling Temperature

چکیده
As liquids approach the glass transition temperature, dynamical heterogeneity emerges as a crucial universal feature of their behavior. Dynamic facilitation, where local motion triggers further nearby, plays major role in this phenomenon. Here we show that long-range, elastically-mediated facilitation appears below mode-coupling adding to short-range component present at all temperatures. Our results suggest deep connections between supercooled liquid and states, pave way for deeper understanding glassy systems.

Mode coupling and dynamical heterogeneity in colloidal gelation: a simulation study.
We present simulation results addressing the dynamics of a colloidal system with attractive interactions close to gelation. Our interaction also has a soft, long-range repulsive barrier that suppresses liquid-gas type phase separation at long wavelengths. The new results presented here lend further weight to an intriguing picture emerging from our previous simulation work on the same system. Wh...
متن کاملEffect of reversible mode-coupling terms and dynamical anisotropy
Phase transitions in non-equilibrium steady states of O(n)-symmetric models with reversible mode couplings are studied using dynamic field theory and the renormalization group. The systems are driven out of equilibrium by dynamical anisotropy in the noise for the conserved quantities, i.e., by constraining their diffusive dynamics to be at different temperatures T ‖ and T in d‖and d⊥-dimensiona...
متن کاملMitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 mediates temperature heterogeneity in atherosclerotic plaques.
AIMS Rupture-prone atherosclerotic plaques show an elevated temperature, but a molecular explanation for this phenomenon is unknown. Here, we investigated whether mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) could be involved because this protein is a macrophage homologue of thermogenin in brown fat tissue. METHODS AND RESULTS Immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and real-time quantitative po...

متن کاملInfluence of Temperature Gradients on Tunnel Junction Thermometry below 1 K : Cooling and Electron - Phonon Coupling
We have studied thermal gradients in thin Cu and AlMn wires, both experimentally and theoretically. In the experiments, the wires were Joule heated non-uniformly at sub-Kelvin temperatures, and the resulting temperature gradients were measured using normal metal-insulator-superconducting tunnel junctions. The data clearly shows that even in reasonably well conducting thin wires with a short (∼ ...
